Project overview

The Pest Careers website is a free resource hub for anyone interested in starting a career in pest management in the UK. Provided by BPCA, the site offers guidance, industry information, and showcases their latest recruitment video.

The British Pest Control Association (BPCA) is a non-profit organisation that represents, supports, and maintains high standards for over 700 member companies in the UK pest management industry.

Technical implementation

I designed and developed this website on the Phoenix Framework focusing on accessibility, performance, and an engaging user experience.

This web site features:

  • Mobile first responsive user interface
  • Custom templates with BPCA branding
  • Dynamic single-page application powered by Phoenix LiveView
  • Infinite scrolling for listings pages
  • Automated image processing with ImageMagick
  • Purpose-built admin area for easy content management
  • Enhanced markup with microformats and ARIA tagging for accessibility

Results

The site loads quickly, works well across all devices, and meets high accessibility standards. Feedback has been positive, and the site is ready to grow with future needs.

Thoughts and feelings

This project was a great opportunity to build a high quality ‘microsite’ on a tight budget. I enjoyed collaborating with Liquona and BPCA and was pleased with how much I accomplished within the allotted budget.

It’s rewarding to show that thoughtful design and solid engineering can deliver a purpose built solution, proving that you don’t always need to rely on off the shelf solutions to achieve great results even on a limited budget.
